“The rise in total employment and participation is largely
attributable to a 2.5% rise in female employment in
the December quarter … As the
impact of higher food prices and interest rates start
to impact on the household budget, this increase in
female participation and employment could reflect
the need for a secondary income in some
households.”

Wow, that’s speculative. That sounds like the sort of thing I’d say without providing any evidence 😉 . Sure there was a 2% increase in LFP amongst females between September and December – but there was also a 1.4% decrease between June and September, wonder why they didn’t mention that 🙂

Attempting to explain quarterly movements in a volatile series is the path to ruin for economists. Female participation has been trending up for last 20 years, do we really need to explain why it increased in the December quarter?

The report is just the special topic (they always have one).
