That certainly seems to be what retailers have done this time around as well – consumer good inventories are at record levels (we suspect – the NZIER QSBO says that most firms feel that they are “over-stocked”).

Would be interesting to see how the turnover of places like Noel Leeming changes as the dollar rises and falls.

It is interesting – we have borrowed while our dollar could buy a lot from overseas, and now that it is easing we are pulling back to save. It seems like sensible stuff from the NZ consumer.

While we get bitten somewhat with higher interest rates those Tokyo housewives could take the real hit on our borrowing binge.
