Indeed, I think that’s the way we’ve been viewing them in this series as well – the discussion has been around how to conceptualise the way people may use this mechanism.

Because I enjoy a coffee (or two) a day and not an ever increasing amount of coffee.

I tend to view habits as either a physical dependence (coffee) or as a a means of avoiding making choices due to the high ‘cost’ of making choices, in the same vein as stereotypes help us by avoiding the high cost of collecting the full set of information about someone.
